Fuzion on Church

I have something to look forward to on Fridays - a glass of crisp Chardonnay and a dozen oysters at the Fuzion on Church Street. This fine dining resto has $1 oysters and $5 tapas on Fridays, 5-7p.m. Make sure to have a sit on their spacious shaded patio - it is perfect for people watching (and you know, it's especially good on Church street - so many different characters).

As far as food goes, the Oysters were fresh, but a bit small. Only one souse is included with the order, the extras are $1.50 each. The muscles ($10) are large enough to share, and grilled eggplant ($5 on Fridays) is delicious. A small selection of wines by the glass is available ($10 on average).

Enjoy,
F.

Montreal and More

Jardin Nelson

I am back! Well, technically I didn't go anywhere except for a short trip to Montreal. I am back to active blogging and sourcing interesting content for Fira&Capa. Expect new "obsessions", deals, and perhaps a bit more more pop culture.

I'd like to say a few words about my Montreal trip. This was an "anniversary" trip for me and Mr. Zaika - we've been together for thee years today and I sincerely hope to celebrate our 30th anniversary one day... But enough lyrics. I want to tell you about two wonderful spots I've discovered in Montreal.

The first one of my finds is called Jardin Nelson. It is located in the Old Port district and faces a lovely, pedestrian-only square. Both outdoor patios and the dining room are adorned with fresh flowers. The menu is fabulous - lots of gourmet salads, crepes, and summer-inspired dishes. Oh, and their Sangria is beyond anything I've ever tried before!
The second spot is called Cafe Gitana located at 2080-A, Rue St-Denis. It's an authentic Turkish hookah lounge that has a selection of fruit-flavoured narguilahs and traditional black and mint teas. I've been there twice in two days and loved both visits. Highly recommended for people-watching and relaxation after a long day of shopping and sight seeing.

RedBull 381PROJECTS - Event

Images: David Armstrong Six, "The Law of the Excluded Middle". Installation view, Red Bull 381 Projects

We all know what RedBull is. However, I'm sure not a lot of you are aware what RedBull 381PROJECTS stands for. It's a space on Queen/Peter, occupied by Red Bull office that at the same time houses exhibitons and hosts creative events. I heard the space itself is amazing from a design point of view.

I contacted 381 PROJECTS to see what exhibits are on right now and was lucky to find out that there is an event happening related to their current exhibit.
The work displayed at the moment is called "The Law of the Excluded Middle" by Montreal based artist David Armstrong Six "draws upon a wide-range of references and materials, resulting in an equally diverse yet decisive practice within the ambit of sculpture, drawings and video."

This Thursday, May 19, the artist will be giving a talk in the gallery and a walk through of his show.

If you can make it, I think, it's a great opportunity to check out the work itself, listen to the artist talk about it, as most of the time we have no idea what the artist "wanted to say with it" and, check out the beautiful space of the RedBull office.

Exhibition runs till May
Special Event: Gallery walkthrough with David Armstrong Six and curators Nicholas Brown and Catherine Dean Thursday, May 20 at 7pm

PUBLIC HOURS:Thursday and Friday: 5-9pm Saturday: 12-5pm

Tried and Approved

Pic by Ilona K.

I am so exited to share my great new find with you! Chi-Ko-Roo restaurant on Church and Wellesley has the best lunch specials and they are all $7! Plus, you get fresh bread and thee awesome dips with every order for free! My recommendation is to get Mediterranean Grilled Veggies and Chicken salad (pictured). The serving is huge and warm bell peppers, asparagus, and chicken breast and delicious. Chicken Caesar and Mandarin Chicken salads are also great.
The place is brand new, with semi-enclosed patio and quick, friendly service. I went there today with two friends and our bill came to $23 after taxes. I think Chi-Ko-Roo has the potential to become my next favorite casual spot!

Me and Ilona plan to continue exploring Church street. It looks promising, so stay tuned for more lunch recommendations!
